About Joanne and Rose
Rose Gillen - At 5 years old, armed with her trusty avocado green Betty Crocker Easy Bake Oven, Rose began her baking career by mass producing mini cookies and cakes for friends and family. It wasn’t until after college that she again followed her pastry passion. She took pastry classes at Tante Marie’s Cooking School in SF and more at Ecole Lenotre in France. Having completed stints at several Bay Area bakeries, from Fran Gage’s Patisserie Francaise to the Moss Room and Café at the Academy of Sciences, she now does custom baking and pastry work. She loves making everything from wedding cakes to molded chocolates to candied citrus peel. Rose has been a Baker’s Dozen member for 20+ years and has served on the Board of the Baker’s Dozen for 5 years.
Joanne Chang, Pastry Chef/Co-owner Flour Bakery, Co-owner Myers + Chang - James Beard Award-winning chef Joanne Chang opened the first Flour bakery in 2000. 20 years later, she now operates nine Flour bakeries and sister restaurant Myers + Chang in Boston/Cambridge with her husband and business partner Christopher Myers. Joanne, Flour, and Myers + Chang have garnered local and national recognition from Gourmet, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, the New York Times, the Food Network, Conde Nast Traveler, Inc. Magazine, O Magazine, Boston Magazine, and the Boston Globe. She is the author of five cookbooks, teaches and advises local pastry cooks, serves on the Board of Directors for Share our Strength as well as Brookline Bank. In Spring 2020, Joanne launched an IGTV series Flour Love (#flourlove) on instagram featuring a collection of baking kits with baking demonstration videos.
